Alternatives to Helicopter Transport: Our Experience with Furniture Transport to Mustadkroken
The cabin has a beautiful location but lacks direct road access. Instead of choosing helicopter transport, we used alternative methods.
The Challenge of Transport to an Inaccessible Cabin
The existing furniture had to be removed, and new furniture needed to be transported in. The usual options that are often considered are waiting for suitable snowmobile conditions or looking into the possibility of helicopter transport. Our method provides a cost-effective approach that requires less planning and logistics on the customer’s part. In fact, the cost ends up at about one third of the price of a helicopter lift!
Our Approach
Use of a rowboat
We used a rowboat to transport the furniture as far into the water as possible, which significantly reduced the amount of carrying required afterwards.
Custom-made carrying frames and pack frames
In advance, we had built custom carrying frames that could be attached to a pack frame. This would have made it possible to transport heavier furniture on foot with minimal strain on the body. We did not end up needing these on this trip, but we brought them along as a backup solution to the “rowboat method”.
Although this method required more time and physical effort compared to helicopter transport, it resulted in a successful delivery and removal of the furniture without the need for air transport.
Advantages of using Alternative Transport Methods
Our experience from Mustadkroken highlights several important advantages of exploring alternatives to helicopter transport:
Potentially lower costs: Helicopter transport can represent a significant expense. By choosing alternative methods, it is possible to achieve a more economical solution.
Reduced environmental impact: Sustainability is an important consideration. By avoiding helicopter transport, greenhouse gas emissions and noise disturbance in nature can be reduced.
Flexibility and adaptability: We can develop transport solutions tailored to the specific conditions at each location.
Situations Where Alternative Solutions May Be a Good Choice
Based on our experience, we believe alternative transport methods are worth considering in the following situations:
Where there are opportunities for partial transport via water or existing trails.
When the timeline allows for a more time-consuming process and transport can be planned over several days.
When reducing costs and environmental impact are key priorities.
Conclusion: Practical Solutions Deliver Results
Our experience transporting furniture to Mustadkroken shows that helicopter transport is not necessarily the only solution, even for cabins without direct road access.
